Weed, California is a historic town founded and named after Abner Weed, located off I-5 about an hour north of Redding, with fantastic scenery of Mt. Shasta and elevation at 3,500 feet. The temperature during the summer ranges from the 80's to 90's with south winds and periodic thunderstorms. Winters are dry and sometimes snowy with temperature averaging 30-40 degrees and low 20s during the night. Population approximately 3,300 with another estimated 7,000 more in the surrounding unincorporated area. The city has been labeled the "small lumber town with big charm rich in history". It is home to Weed Chamber of Commerce, City Hall, Weed Elementary, Weed High School and College of the Siskiyous, and many small and sole proprietor businesses as well as large employers of Crystal Geyser, Roseburg Forest Products and Siskiyou Development, Inc. Seven miles north on Highway 97 is the Lake Shastina Community which has its own Police, Fire, Medical Facility and still within the Weed limits. Located nearby are the Deer Mountain Snow Mobile Park, Mt Shasta Ski Park and Stewart Mineral Springs Resort as well as places to hike and fish.
Lake Shastina is a planned development centrally located in Siskiyou County. It takes advantage of nearby College of the Siskiyous, the commerce of South and North Siskiyou County, as well as the Lakes, Rivers, mountain skiing, hiking and comping, Lake Shastina's panoramic beauty is home to many varieties of wildlife, flora and fauna. Lake Shastina provides recreation and a scenic backdrop for residents. It is created by a dam on the Shasta River, which eventually flows into the Klamath River
